BLACK+DECKER BDERO100 Random Orbit Sander Review

B and D

The Black & Decker BDERO100 is a palm sander with a five-inch sanding surface and an ergonomic design that makes it easier to hold and use for longer periods of time. This is a smaller model, designed to move quickly and produce a high-quality finish. It also comes with a moderately heavy weight, which will give some users pause if they’re in need of a sander for vertical surfaces. If you’re sanding horizontal surfaces, such as a floor, then its heavier weight won’t matter much. Overall, this is a great compact model that you can rely on for small to medium-sized jobs.

Our Verdict: This is a compact, ergonomic sander that’s beginner-friendly and pretty powerful, despite the low price tag. It comes with some great features including dust-sealed switches and a built-in vac port that allows you to hook up a shop vac and keep your workspace clean and free of sawdust. The only real drawback is the lower-powered motor, which comes in at two amps and the short six-foot-long cord. Overall, I felt that this was a great power tool to have on hand for small to medium-sized sanding jobs.

Overview and Features

If you’re searching for a pro-quality power tool, then you’ll need to keep looking. While this sander definitely offers a solid performance, its lower-powered motor is not designed for continuous use, which means you can anticipate it overheating if you plan on using it for several hours at a time. But while it’s not exactly pro-quality, it can still be the perfect option for the beginner or the DIYer in need of a reliable tool they can use around the home.

Product Rating: (4.5/5)

B and D

  • Built-in dust port
  • Ergonomic design
  • Reasonably priced
  • Dust-sealed switches
  • Shop vac compatible
  • Beginner-friendly

If you’re looking for a beginner-friendly sander, then your search is over. This model features the popular hook and loop system that makes changing out the sandpaper discs a faster and easier process. It also comes equipped with dust-sealed switches that are designed to keep out debris and sawdust, preventing it from entering the body of the sander. This will help to extend the life of your power tool.

Weight

Weighing in at just under five pounds, this is a somewhat heavy power tool compared to other models in this price range, however, if you’re not sawing vertical surfaces then the weight won’t be an issue.

Cord Length

This is a corded model that comes with a cord that’s six feet long. Due to the shorter cord, you’ll need to use an extension cord or two. This can be a drawback for some users. However, since it’s corded, you won’t have to worry about a battery running low or the sander dying on you as you’re working.

Dust Port

This system is very efficient and gives you a couple of connection options, which is a huge selling point.

The tool’s built-in dust port allows you to hook up a shop vac so you can quickly and efficiently suck up sawdust and keep your work area and work material clean and highly visible. This will help to ensure better results and can prevent you from making too many passes over a single area. If you don’t have a shop vac, you can use the included dust bag, however, given the bag’s smaller size, you’ll need to empty it frequently.

Motor

This model is packing a two amp motor, which is low compared to some higher-priced models and about average for a sander in this price bracket. The lower power makes it a poor choice for use in the workplace unless you’re doing some fine sanding.

  • Built-in dust port

Performance

This model is designed specifically with woodworkers in mind. However, it can be used for any type of sanding task and can be a great power tool for the carpenter, construction worker, sculptor, artist, hobbyist, or DIYer. This model is perfect for many types of woodworking applications such as sanding tables, cabinets, and chairs. It can also work well for larger area sanding such as floorboards, or sanding down raw lumber. This model is favored by woodworkers due to how its ergonomic design, efficient performance make it easier to move around challenging areas such as corners. It ensures a level and smooth pass each time, so you can expect pro results, even if this is your first time using a sander. How Does This Model Stand Up to the Competition

The Makita BO5030K 5″ Random Orbit Sander is the top competing model and it really does give this Black and Decker power tool a run for its money since it offers a more powerful three-amp motor. It also comes with dust-sealed switches and a rubberized grip that improves user comfort. Both models use the simple hook and loop changing system and offer a smooth and powerful sanding performance, however, the Makita would be a better fit in a pro environment compared to this model. The Makita model is a better fit for continuous use and larger projects, whereas this model is a better choice for small to medium-sized jobs around the home.

Conclusion and Rating

Product Rating: (4.5/5)

B and DThis Black and Decker power tool is one of the best palm sanders for home use and definitely one of the cleanest to use. Thanks to the powerful dust port, you’ll be able to keep your hands and workspace clean and free of dirt, dust, and debris. The tool’s motor falls short on power, making it a poor choice for the pros since it’s smaller motor cannot handle prolonged use. However, for what it is, this model is a steal for the price. It also comes loaded with some great extras that you wouldn’t normally expect to find on a model in this price bracket. I gave this tough, compact power tool a rating of four and a half out of five stars.
